Alt Music News is a music news app that saves you trawling through dozens of feeds and reading hundreds of news items. Its main screen presents a tag cloud containing all the artists/events in the news and lets you select just the ones you are interested in. The bigger the name appears, the more stories there are for it.

As the name suggests it specializes in "alternative music" from rock to rap, from dance, to dubstep and beyond. Tap on "Nick Cave" and it gives you all the stories that relate to him. Tap again and it takes you to the story on the sources web site where you can read it and share it.

You can "like" things which makes them appear in red so they stand out form the crowd, If you have read all the stories for a subject then it goes grey.

Live Tiles.

On a windows 8 phone you an pin the application to the start page. This shows a count of how many unread "liked" stories there are. It even shows a random selection of headlines.

You can also pin a particular artists to the start page. This will also show how many unread stories there are relating to them as well as the latest headlines. These are all updated in the background.
