Altitude uses the pressure sensor in your Android device to provide altitude and rate of climb information displayed on replica analog aviation instruments. Switches are provided to turn on / off the audio and sink alarms as well as a QNH knob to adjust the sea level pressure setting. The QNH knob is dragged around the outside of the instrument dial rather than "turned" for ease of use on a touch screen.

The altitude is calculated using the barometric formula and is reasonably accurate against a mechanical altimeter up to around 10,000 feet. The variometer uses a simple scalar Kalman filter to help stabilise the needle. A future enhancement will be to implement a matrix based filter to improve the responsiveness of the varometer.

Altitude has been tested whilst soaring in sailplanes and paragliding, and is about half a second response slower than a dedicated hardware variometer but never the less provides a very usable vario.
