Since most of the staff at AADigest have a child on the spectrum, we are like you—in a never-ending search for the best possible treatments, tips, and research that might improve the lives of our special children and ourselves. We also believe that we are on a special journey to experience things that families with neurotypical kids will never be given the opportunity to share. With this comes hard times and much work—sometimes with little to no perceivable steps forward—but the rewards are tremendous. We have heard Temple Grandin speak at many conferences, and have come away with one undeniable truth: She embodies the “possibilities” for everyone in the room. That’s exactly WHY we created AADigest—to celebrate these hopes and possibilities. To share in our defeats and our triumphs. To stand together against what sometimes seem like insurmountable odds, while understanding that someone has gone before us and has succeeded. We firmly believe that’s why Temple is AADigest’s longest running columnist (11 years), and still writes for us to this day. She believes, like we do, that with understanding, testing, and trying, we can overcome most of the obstacles in our way.We believe in giving our readers the very best information anywhere in the field of autism. We believe knowledge is power. And therein lies our WHY. It is our hope and belief that as we find and discover new ideas, the AADigest community should be the first to know about it. We believe that we become stronger by sharing information with our community, rather than going it alone. We believe that parents, teachers, therapists, friends, and family members of spectrum kids are to be lifted up with praise for their tireless work. We believe in the ability, rather than the disability, of individuals. We believe in progress. We believe in courage, creativity, and dedication. We believe in always being curious. We believe in going beyond standard thinking. We believe in asking the hard questions. We believe in standing against the incorrect and the inaccurate. We believe in moving past established boundaries. We believe in helping one another. That’s WHY AADigest exists; it is the natural extension of what we believe.
