Bear Trails is a simple and easy to use application that actively tracks a users position using the space based global positioning system (GPS). Designed as a companion for walkers and hikers Bear Trails queries the iPhones position at regular intervals, plotting a trail using geocoded waypoints whilst also calculating both the walk duration and total distance walked.For optimum performance Bear Trails uses a custom set of algorithms to filter and process location data received from the iPhone’s built in GPS receiver. Background location services and iOS multitasking are also fully supported allowing the application to continue plotting trails even when the iPhone is locked and tucked safely away in a pocket or backpack.Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
