The Big Year is an informal Mountain Biking (MTB) event that takes place all over South Africa and consists of carefully selected mountain bike trails in each province. The aim for riders is to see how many of these trails they can ride in ONE year.

You decided when you would like to start (any time of year) and how fast or slow you want to go. It is a one of a kind event suited for everyone.

To participate, download The Big MTB Year App. Control is achieved via the App, by:

• checking-in at the trail

• taking a photo

• riding the trail

• submitting trail feedback

All of these actions will earn you points.

The more you ride, the more points you will receive. By reaching certain score levels, you will be rewarded with achievement badges and improving your overall ranking.

Even though it is App based, it is still an event - so there will be winners and anyone can win this!

Every year a NEW list of MTB trails are published as part of the Big Year – so every year, the Big Year will get Bigger (and still be different)!
