Biotribology embraces a wide range of research topics from artificial joint implants to hair conditioners and soft-tissue friction. Although this is one of the most exciting areas of research in tribology, until now there has not been a single conference dedicated to all aspects of biotribology.The inaugural ICoBT was organised at Imperial College in 2011 to bring these diverse interests together in one meeting focused solely on biotribology. Our stated aim of bringing together biotribologists from different scientific and engineering disciplines was more than fulfilled. The enthusiasm and support expressed by fellow biotribologists has prompted us to organise a 2nd ICoBT, which will be held at the Sheraton in Toronto in 2014.
