As a lone samurai, challenge the clans of Japan to prove your mastery in tactical fencing. When a single strike kills, you must master the balance of attack and defense with precision timing. While it's possible to survive a single fight with sharp reflexes and a bit of luck, to master a fight you must see all attacks before they happen.
• 5 clans to test your skill, with more on the way
• Survival mode: How many can you defeat, against the most skilled samurai?
• While anyone can complete a stage by being careful, to master a stage you must be efficient in defeating your opponents
Knowing the difference between the three attacks: quick, stab and slash, is crucial to defeating an opponent. The control on the right side of the screen is your attack and defense. The upper diagonal button is a quick, short ranged flick of your sword- good for close quarters because you can block right away. The forward button is to stab, which has the longest range but is the slowest attack to start, so it's often easy to dodge. The lower diagonal is the slash, and is decently fast, has medium range, but takes the longest to retract your sword so you can't block right away and that leaves you open. The benefit to a slash is that it cannot be dodged, but the other two attacks can.
Understanding when to dodge, block, and counterattack is key to mastering your opponent. The down button on the right side of the screen is block. You can hold the down button and block as long as you want but if you wait too long to counter, you can be trapped. Blocking an attack also pushes you away from the opponent, lessening your reach. Pressing the up button is to dodge, which only lasts a second but is very useful for counterattacks because you can counter at any time during the dodge. Dodging an attack does not push you back, so you can remain close to your opponent, giving you an advantage to counterattack.
Sliding blocks and dodges can be done by pressing block or dodge while moving. This is useful for closing the gap between you and the opponent while preparing to defend yourself.
Sliding attacks can be done by pressing an attack button while moving. This method gives you an advantage in speed, allowing you to begin an attack before you're even in the proper range, assuming that the attack will land just as you slide into the proper range.
