The ancient Celts associated a tree to the days of the year and each tree had virtues that influenced people born in that particular day. The Celtic calendar is different from the one normally used in most of the world and provides that the first day of the year coincides with the first day of November.

The year was divided into four quarters: Samain (1st of November), Imbolic (1st of February), Bealtaine (1st of May) and Lúnasa (1st of August).
