Commercial whaling has been illegal since 1982, yet whale populations are still decreasing to a level where some species are close to extinction. Where blame at the moment is normally focused on Japan because it is whaling under a scientific licence but whale meat is still appearing on the dinner table. But are countries that are still whaling to blame for the lack of whales in our oceans or was the issue created before the ban of whaling introduced by the International Whaling Commission (IWC).

This book will help to show a century of whaling in an easy to understand way, to help you quantify how many whales have been killed and are still being killed today when whaling for commercial gain is against the Law. This should give you an understanding on who is accountable for the low population of whales and what should or could be done about it.

The data that has been used has been taking from The Committee for Whaling Statistics, which is part of the IWC. Although there is no way of knowing if this data is going to be one hundred per cent accurate it is the most reliable source to get this type of data from.
