Search for foods and see what allergens may be in them. Chow Checker uses the Nutritionix food database to help you determine if a food from your grocery store or restaurant has any common allergens.

Chow Checker helps people that have food allergies stay away from foods that will harm them. Our idea originated from our school being a “peanut-free zone” due to the number of students that have peanut allergies. About 15 million people in America suffer from food allergies. The most common food allergens are cow's milk, eggs, peanuts, fish, wheat, soy, shellfish, and tree nuts. Roughly every 1 in 13 children have food allergies.

Developed by the students at Hampstead Academy in Hampstead, NH, Chow Checker was a winner in the Verizon Foundation Innovative App Challenge 2013, and was written using MIT App Inventor.
