Sunset, as the sun slowly disappears below the horizon in the west, is often a more brightly coloured and magical scene than a sunrise. It provides some spectacular images, with a blaze of vibrant orange and red hues. The atmosphere responds to exposure to the sun in a number of ways during the daylight hours, and there tends to be more dust in the lower atmosphere at the end of the day than at the beginning. Clouds too can offer images with fascinating forms, from dark, threatening storm clouds to bright, fluffy, cumulus clouds that form vertically, adding an interesting touch to an otherwise cloudless sky. But add broken cloud to a sunset and the magic is doubled.
