You're competing in real time with players all around the world - all striving to outdo you and your positions.

Fundamental to the market is the underlying movement of the dollar exchange rate, as all commodities are valued in dollars. On choosing a market to trade, you are asked what volume you wish to buy, from which a dollar conversion is applied to calculate the bottom line size of the commodity contract.

Once a sum has been purchased, you get to choose your storage facility. These are graded by their quality and daily storage costs - it is worth remembering that events can occur to stored commodities, so perhaps paying for a higher quality storage facility would be worthwhile.

The current value of your holding reflects not only the shift in value of the product but also the impact of the dollar exchange rate.

To trade out of their position, a trader can either dump the commodity back onto the market or if they have a client, and have held the commodity for over 6 hours, they can attempt to get a better deal. It's important to note that the client will then offload the commodity within 24 hours - if they lose money then their faith in you will be reduced, which negatively affects your trading reputation.
