As the years went by, a young Dennis realized it was time for him to move on and he purchased his own boat, to be used for his pleasure and passion: fishing. The time had come for Dennis to become his own captain. Dennis’ Hooker, for short “D-Hooker”, was baptized and set sail. With each sail, hundreds of stories, experiences, and adventures were born and set the path that would later lead Dennis to form his other passion: a family. It’s interesting to note that “D-Hooker”, a name he came up with over 12 years ago, also makes reference to “De-hooker”, which is a device used for removing a hook safely from a fish’s mouth…Dennis and Betsy became a team the moment “D-Hooker” came into their lives. Their love for fishing and cooking intertwined into the perfect liaison. But their relationship and their fate was sealed on the first anniversary of their relationship. After a long and tiresome fishing day aboard “D-Hooker”, with little to show for, Betsy and Dennis were getting ready to pick-up their fishing lines, when suddenly both their lines began to pull. Together, and at precisely the same time, Dennis and Betsy began fighting their fish with excitement, until finally, Betsy pulled out a 30lb female dolphin and Dennis brought up a 52lb bull dolphin. With such a coincidental catch, they knew at that moment that this was the start of their journey together, and that great things would subsequently come to them, as a family.As a couple now, Dennis and Betsy soon welcomed their two sons into D-Hooker’s world: Jonathan (9) and Jordan (7). By their parents’ side, the boys enjoyed every bit of the adventures of fishing, sun, water and fun that came with “D-Hooker”, who by now had become part of their family.It was in the year 2010 when Dennis and Betsy’s dream of sharing with other people their passion for fishing, food and entertainment was turned into a reality. Another member of the family came aboard: the “D-Hooker Sports Bar & Grill”. On Saturday, August 7th, 2010, the Duran family welcomed, for the first time, hundreds of guests into their world.As you walk into “D-Hooker Family Sports Bar & Grill”, you immediately realize you’re not just walking into a restaurant… you’re actually walking into the home and inside the life of the Duran family. And this is not just figuratively speaking… The walls will tell you their story and the years they enjoyed on the ocean aboard the D-Hooker. The pictures hanging next to each life-size fish tell you the story of the day each of them were caught. Even the day the legendary Bull Dolphin was caught is recorded in pictures, which eventually became the logo of the “D-Hooker Sports Bar & Grill”.As you sit down and you look around, you will realize that the walls and booths are built from wood actually taken from the fence that surrounded the Duran’s home. Dennis and Betsy put all their love and even used their own hands into conceptualizing and building the “D-Hooker Family Sports Bar & Grill”. The site where it currently sits is also full of history. It is that of one of the first restaurants that opened in Key Largo, which later became a popular Breakfast Diner.
