Diabetes-Calc is a bolus calculator for type 1 diabetics using an insulin pen (not an insulin pump).Diabetes-Calc integrates with Chris Bowley's Diabetes-Diary (available separately on the App Store).There is a bit of setting up that you need to do to get the calculator so that it’s right for you. For starters, you need to input your carbs:insulin ratios. If you’re lucky, then you might have an easy ratio, like 10g of carb:1 unit of insulin. Your physician or diabetes clinic should be able to help you with this if it proves a stumbling block, but most diabetics have an idea of how many units they need to set as a dose with regards to how many carbs they are about to eat.Once configured, start the app, input your blood glucose reading, input your estimated carbohydrate intake and it will suggest a bolus (or dose) based on that information.Diabetes-Calc has been designed for convenience and helps to remove errors and guesswork when calculating your insulin dose.Always consult your physician or diabetes clinic before use and please adjust the settings before using the calculator for the first time.
