INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Press MENU to set distance units as you wish from miles and kilometers.

2. When you see lightning, press lightning icon to begin to calculate.

3. It will count time for us until we hear a sound of thunder.

4. Press thunder icon with thunder sound to end this calculation.

5. We can get a result of distance here with direction and distance.

USES:

Fun and educational, it's also useful for outdoor activities where lightning may be a hazard (handy for lifeguards, referees, playground helpers, etc.).

Not recommended for artillery spotting...

Perception of the sonic characteristics can be further complicated by factors such as the irregular and possibly branching geometry of the lightning channel, by acoustic echoing from terrain, and by the typically multiple-stroke characteristic of the lightning strike.
