Downhill slope tracker is developed to help winter driving. Under blizzard condition, drivers need to slow down before getting on a long downhill slope section. However, drivers may not be aware a downhill slope section ahead until too late. This app uses Google Map Elevation database to find and mark the downhill sections on the route. Therefore, drivers can prepare ahead.

To use the app, you just need to enter origin and destination address and the downhill slope threshold in percentage, such as, 3% or 5%. A Google Map will be displayed on screen with planned route and the starting points for downhill sections, which have slope greater than the chosen threshold slope.

As the purpose is to help winter driving under blizzard condition, its usage is expected to be mainly limited to short driving on local roads. Therefore, the total route distance is limited to 31 miles. If the total distance gets beyond this limit, the route and map will still be shown. But the markers for starting of the downhill slope sections will not show. Instead, a reminder will be shown to indicate the total route distance is beyond the app capability.
