Eco:Map is a professional tool for mapping plants and animals with the iPhone. Species are administered separately according to field trips. The GPS unit of the iPhone determines automatically the coordinates of each find. For each find you can store further parameters e.g. the sex of a species. Each find can immediately be displayed on a map. Users who want to define their own data sheets for finds are able to do so. An easy-to-use editor supports you to design a form. Available data types are: Logical, numbers, texts and choice fields. These forms can be imported by other users. For further processing in other databases and applications you can export your data in the formats CSV, Simple Darwin Core and Keyhole Markup Language (Google Earth). You decide whether you transfer a field trip's data via e-mail, via a browser in a local area network or via iTunes to your computer. If you are looking for further information you have online access to Google, Wikipedia, Biopix and USDA (U.S. Department of Agriculture). An offline reader for the English Wikipedia (ca. 41.000 articles) is available, too.Eco:Map enables you to take photographs within the app which you can view in a slide show. These photographs can be transferred to your computer just like any other data.Eco:Map comprises fifteen preset databases:The „Catalogue of Life 2011“ released by Species 2000 and ITIS contains more than 2.34 million scientific names and synonyms and 70,000 English names of all organisms world wide. Accepted scientific names are marked as such. To identfy each species precisely Eco:Map stores its life science identifier (LSID). Common names in the following languages are included: Czech, Danish, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish.„GEFD“ contains more than 5,000 scientific names and synonyms and bases upon the List of Vascular Plants published by Dr. Karl Peter Buttler and by Dr. Ralf Hand in 2008 on behalf of Gesellschaft zur Erforschung der Flora Deutschlands; about 2,000 English names.„LUBW“ contains about 28,000 scientific names and synonyms and about 10,000 English names. It is based on the data of the Landesanstalt für Umwelt, Messungen und Naturschutz Baden-Württemberg, an environmental authority in Germany's federal state Baden-Württemberg.All check lists of Bundesamt für Naturschutz are included (e.g. German Mammalia and German Birds). Besides that Eco:Map is able to import user defined databases.Apple-approved Education institutions in the United States can get a discount when ordering Eco:Map.
