The idea for this project come from the movie 'Ben X', where an autistic boy uses a camera to record and learn human interactions. The TV show 'Lie To Me' is another example where camera recordings are used to learn from emotions. The show 'Lie to Me' is inspired by the work of Paul Ekman and his book 'Emotions revealed' together with the camera of your mobile phone are the core idea behind this project.

The Android App "Emphatic Android" is not a clinical tool: it cannot cure autism or detect liars. But the App uses proven techniques, like the Facial Coding System from Paul Ekman and the Candide face model (M. Rydfalk) to give an insight in the emotions of the people in the snapshots on your mobile phone.
