Many people studying English can understand other non-native English speakers but realise it’s very different when talking to native British people. They use slang and idioms, in different accents and at confusing speeds.

This app helps to bridge that gap. It consists of three short videos of English speakers, one is an introduction and the other two are real, everyday situations. They are out and about in London, talking to people they meet. None of these people are actors. None of the conversations are scripted. These are simply edited clips of real talk, with real accents and at normal speed.

You can explore the clips in three different ways.

"Watch, listen and read" is an ordinary video with English subtitles. Watch, listen and enjoy!

"Listen and read" is a ‘talking transcript’. It's like a video but instead of seeing the speakers, you see their words written down as they say them. This will help you to see exactly what the people are saying and how they say it.

"Explore the language" will help you focus on words and phrases that will help you understand native English speakers. It is the same content as the videos but written and interactive, so you can explore it at your own pace.

These interesting words and phrases fit into five categories:

A) Word stories tells you about words and phrases with interesting meanings

B) Tea Time tells you everything you need to know about the English and their tea habits

C) Directions shows you why you should always get a map

D) Politeness shows you just how hard English speakers work to be polite

E) All Talk shows you how real talk is different to textbook talk
