This video tour takes visitors through the Etowah Indian Mounds Historic site, Cartersvllle, Georgia. Six earthen mounds are all that is left of a great prehistoric North American culture that vanished long ago. The tallest stands higher than a six-story building and is one of the largest structures ever built by the Mississippian societies. As visitors walk along the trail in the 54-acre archaeological site, audio and video help bring to life the culture that once flourished here. Visitors learn the purpose of the mounds, a plaza, borrow pits, a defensive ditch and a v-shaped fish trap on the Etowah River, all built 1000 years ago.
