Periodontology encompasses the study and treatment of diseases and disorders of the supporting tissues of the teeth, including the gums and bone. Although the most common are gingivitis and periodontitis, there are many other conditions that need to be recognised and managed.Periodontology has also played a key role in the development of Implant Dentistry, both from a research and clinical perspective. The EFP is justly proud of the achievements of many of the researchers and clinicians who are members of the Constituent Societies and who have made highly significant contributions to Periodontology and Implant Dentistry.
