Fire Journal is designed for company commanders in the fire service. Unlike incident command applications that rely on the NIMS architecture for managing campaign fires and disasters, Fire Journal is a useful tool for managing the typical fire company's daily activities, including incidents. Best of all, this initial LITE version is FREE and is an idea method for learning how an iOS solution can benefit field operations and data gathering. Fire Journal LITE for iOS 6 is designed to manage those things you do on a daily basis via the My Notes capability. When your company responds to a call (both emergency and non-emergency), you have the ability to track the activities that take place during the call, including Incident Data and Incident Notes. When you respond to a call, you may manage data in real time, or you can add details as you have time. This will aid you when completing journal entries back in your fire station post-incident, or at any time after the incident has been cleared. Fire Journal is highly customizable. You have the ability to modify the standard data with your own information. This includes modification of:• Your personal information (name, assignment, rank, details)• Your agency (Department info)• Fire Stations• Battalions• Divisions (or districts)• Your local response terms (such as "traffic collision" vs "traffic accident")You may also add temporary assignments via the fire station icon - if you work overtime at a different station, Fire Journal will track your work there, in addition to your primary assignment.Use the Incident view to capture the data regarding any type of incident in your district. When you add a call, the current date and time are captured and you only need add the incident number. Tap to select the type of incident, the fire district, battalion, and division. Tap to select the dispatch radio channel and any tactical channels you may be using. A large visual "incident clock" will help you track total incident time, including arrival on-scene, controlled (or knock down), and end of incident. The location of the call can be added via GPS, or you may manually enter the incident and staging addresses. As the incident progresses, you may add notes and time stamp them relative to activities taking place, or things you want to remember for journaling when back in your fire staiton. If your company is busy, you may wish to merely select "New Incident" and take notes, so once you return to quarters, you'll have the notes for multiple incidents organized and ready to transfer to your journal. Once information has been entered, the incident is saved locally in your iPad (version 2 or newer). You may review or edit incidents at any time. Once an incident has been edited, the updates will be stored as well. You may review any incident and all of its data, and a map view will highlight where each incident took place historically.The NFIRS view captures the majority of data from your incident automatically (such as that managed by the incident clock). Entering information into the NFIRS view is optional, but over time having an NFIRS style report for your review or to quickly share with someone else may prove valuable. The NFIRS form is just the first of many forms that will be offered. You may print (via AirPrint) or email all incident and NFIRS data.
