The GENE-wiki iPhone/iPod Touch app is designed for biological and medical research. It is especially useful for proteomics and bioinformatics data inquiry. GENE-wiki is also a useful tool for students who study biology or for people who are interested in biology in general.GENE-wiki is a regularly updated information dictionary for each known human and mouse gene based on the HGNC database. The approved symbol, name, entrez gene ID and uniprot ID facilitates browsing and searching of over forty fields across mutiple databases such as NCBI and UniProt.The GENE-wiki database is installed locally and hence - once downloaded (a compressed 3MB file) - does not require an internet connection to access it's 32,000 plus records. Updating of the GENE-wiki database is carried out transparently whenever an internet connection is detected during application startup.GENE-wiki is an ongoing development in association with it's users so please send us your feedback and suggestions for inclusion in the next release.
