GPX Viewer is an app that allows you to create, view and follow GPX tracks. You can download tracks from many websites, such as MapMyRide.com or GPSies.com, you can also create them with many tools available on the Web. GPX Viewer will display these tracks on the same offline maps that are downloaded for the built in WP8 Maps and Nokia maps. GPX Viewer also allows you to record a track, whether that be running, biking, hiking, or some other mode of transportation. These tracks can then be saved easily to SkyDrive. The app was specifically designed with long bike rides in mind.

GPX Viewer utilizes many new features of the WP8 platform:

Nokia Maps: including full offline map support

Background execution: it won't stop recording when you switch over to another app

File extension registration: automatically open .gpx files from IE or your email attachments

Speech synthesis: use the voice of your choice (set in phone settings) to update your progress or notify if you are off track

Additionally, GPX Viewer has built-in SkyDrive support with auto-upload. You can be sure you won't lose your recordings.

This is a beta release, with some known issues:

GPX Viewer will continue to run in the background when a recording is paused, stop and save the recording to make sure it doesn't keep running

The Climb calculation is kind of stupid right now

Note: if you turn on notifications or start a recording and go to a different app, GPX Viewer will continue to run in the background and will kill your battery in a matter of hours.
