Musicians Janaka Atugoda and Shridevi Keshavan came together to form the electronic duo, Gods Robots, in August 2009. Under the alias ‘Janaka Selekta’, San Francisco-based Janaka had already established a long-standing reputation as music producer and DJ. Meanwhile, Shridevi aka ‘ShriiK’ – a Mumbai native – had been performing with various DJ’s and producers, capitalizing on her unique blend of western vocals and Carnatic-influenced melodies. The band name, ‘Gods Robots’, was inspired by the fact that most of their music was made over the internet in the virtual space. Gods Robots define a brand new sound by seamlessly blending English lyrics with a pop music edge, classical Indian instrumentation and bass heavy underground rhythms. Their debut EP, Stormy Weather, was released by Bit Torrent in late 2011.Taken from the tumultuous times of Gods Robots’ own music-making career, the songs from their self-titled debut album all share a message of positivity and optimism to get through life’s hurdles. For instance, "All You Have" paints a picture of a nuclear winter when most of the world is destroyed. With its brooding tone, the song is a call to arms after the mess that there is a way forward if people rally to make it happen, collectively. There's "Burn It Up" which is all about having the strength to build on what one already has, empowering one to turn dreams into realities.
