Proteins are another requirement in the human body growth and thus should be readily provided in a diet. Leafy greens are a perfect source of natural proteins, thus salads which compose them in their ingredients can play part in supplying proteins.

Most vegetable salads are good sources of insoluble fiber which help keep the digestive system healthy. If common nuts or beans are added into the salad, they boost the availability of soluble fiber which help in lowering cholesterol and keeping blood sugar in balance.

iv. Salad dressings

Vegetable oils is one of the most commonly used salad dressing today. It should however be noted that the nutritional benefits expected from using the dressing depends on the amount used, hence serving size should be watched. The vegetable oil provides healthy unsaturated fats that lower cholesterol. Vegetable oils are found in olive, canola, and soybeans among other sources.
