This app is dedicated to the most amazing person I know. This was the app I created to assist me in proposing to my girlfriend, who I've been dating for seven years. It is kind of a scavenger hunt where she would go to certain destinations which had meaning to our relationship. At each destination, there was someone waiting for her there, and gave her a card. The cards explained the significance of the place to our relationship, told her why I love her, and gave her a password which allowed her to proceed to the next destination. Once she got to the last destination, where I was, we walked around the lake, then I said there was one last password, the voice activated one. I said that to listen carefully because there were instructions she needed to guess. When I said the password, it played "Give Me Your Hand" from The Ready Set. After it was done, I asked her what she thought the instructions were. She said "To give you my hand?" at that point, I expressed my love for her, got on one knee, and proposed.
The app itself was made with many catches. The first being that it would check the date and time for her to be able to begin the app I removed these for the Android Market). If it was not the correct day, it would pull up a screen which would say come back another day. If it was the correct date, but earlier time, it would bring up the first screen, but if you clicked the button to proceed, it wouldn't let you and would bring up a Toast Message saying to try again later. Only if it was the certain date and also after the correct time would it let you proceed. Another catch was that the app took control of the back button to prevent it from accidentally being exited out of. Another catch throughout the app was that it would not allow you to press the proceed button without first going to (clicking on the button) the destination. The same idea was used for the "EXIT" button on the final screen. The voice activated password must have been said correctly in order to exit the app.
Destination 1: South Valley Junior High
This is where we met back in 2006. We liked each other, and our teachers got into it, asking if I was gonna ask her out. One of my teachers even called the class I was in to ask if I had done it yet. Needless to say, I asked her out just a few days after that!
PASSWORD: beginning
Destination 2: Mesquite High School
We spent many years here. We were in marching band and concert band together, which consumed much of our time. Aside from band, we also shared many other classes together. This was the place where we grew the most in character and as people.
PASSWORD: mesquite
Destination 3: Freestone Park
Freestone park didn't have much sentimental meaning to either of us, aside from where we had our senior pictures taken. This destination was more symbolic of the end of high school and graduating, as well as moving into adulthood together.
PASSWORD: graduation
Destination 4: Santan Area
We worked together for a while at the CFA in this area, and always go on dates over here. The password refers to one date where we watched the Lion King in 3D, after which I asked her out again.
PASSWORD: lionking
Destination 5: Power Ranch Park
It is a beautiful little park area, which is where I met back up with Maria after the scavenger hunt. We walked around the lake, I proposed, then we had a nice little picnic of chocolate covered strawberries and sparkling cider!
VOICE ACTIVATED PASSWORD: song
