Hot Particle returns both the Shallow Dose Equivalent and the Effective Dose Equivalent (or Equivalent Dose) resulting from a radioactive (beta/gamma) point source on the skin.

The beta component of the Shallow Dose Equivalent is returned from tables produced by VARKSIN 4’s numerical integration of the Berger point kernel. The whole body Effective Dose Equivalent (ICRP 26) and Equivalent Dose (ICRP 60) for radionuclides with photon emissions are computed based on Monte Carlo calculations published by George Xu for mono-energetic photon point sources on the skin. The user of the application selects a desired radionuclide, activity, exposure time, cover thickness (if any) and location on the body (necessary for the EDE/ED). The strength of this application is that it returns both the Shallow Dose Equivalent and the Effective Dose Equivalent under common, point source (hot particle) conditions.
