HotspotID is a mobile app which, combined with server side processes, has the capability to detect spoofed and rogue access points (AP) in a WiFi network.

* The app collects data to fingerprint and uniquely identify the Access Point the user is connected to and sends this to the HotspotID server.

* The app uses your location to provide the location data for the Access Point. You can turn this off in the settings if you wish.

* The algorithms and processes to register and check fingerprints are stored on the server .

* Each WiFi connection triggers the process to collect fingerprint data for the AP the user connects to and compare it to the FP data on file. The fingerprint check results are compiled to calculate a “Trust Factor” for the AP.

* The “Trust Factor” data is sent back to the device and displayed in one of 3 categories:

High Trust (Green icon) / Medium Trust (Grey icon) / Low Trust (Red icon).

* Low Trust test results will trigger a vibration warning for the user and will turn of the Wifi connection on the device. This actions can be configured in the settings.

* Users can register to setup an account, so that when they are logged in they can give user ratings on an AP, or save an AP in a "My Places" list. The features for registered users will be expanded in the future.
