How to Get Rid of Cramps
Do you wake up in the middle of the night with a cramp and excruciating pain in your calf muscle? While swimming does your toe suddenly curl up and you cannot move your foot? If you get these muscle spasms often consult a doctor and meanwhile, hydrate yourself well and do stretching exercises.
Leg cramps are a particularly irritating ailment that are relatively harmless but cause immense pain while it's happening. At the same time they can strike at the most inappropriate times – when we're sleeping most often meaning that we wake up regularly in the night feeling tired after not getting a sound night of quality rest. Other times though are when we are swimming when it can be of course highly dangerous or during sports, exercise or dance where it can be embarrassing and cost us our performance.
Leg cramps are often related to problems with sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium balance, as well as to problems with deficient hydration. So, making sure that you drink enough fluids (including juices, "sports drinks" and fluids that contain minerals and glucose in addition to water) is important. Some people find that adding a little bit of salt to the diet (such as salting your food on a regular basis) helps.
