The remote location lends itself to imagining what it might have been like for Valentine Hutmacher and his family to arrive at this site with nothing around but the open prairie and the effort it would have taken to build a house out of the available clay and stone.The site is dedicated to the memory of a generation of immigrants who came to the open prairie, endured hardships and made sacrifices to build a better life for their children and grandchildren.
