The hilarious Lleemon Readers in Shona, which this time are seen through the eyes of Sekuru naMbuya Chipangamazano, are designed to equip school pupils with reading skills and to introduce them to the use of Shona proverbs. Having realized that the environment in which we grow in today does not promote the perpetual use of Shona proverbs, Lleemon Publishers decided to come up with these educational booklets for. These booklets therefore seek to hook the minds of children as they read them and instill the use of proverbs. They also provide a unique approach to the teaching of both reading and spelling for pupils.

Helping the child to learn reading is a gradual, repetitive and cumulative process which if not well handled may be a blow to the child’s ego. The tireless reading needed to transform the child may be so cumbersome to the extent of driving him away from books. The Sekuru naMbuya Chipangamazano series however are designed to draw the children’s attention to books. There are 14 booklets in this series providing a variety good enough to kill any sense of straying monotony. The titles for grade one are; Seka Urema Wafa, Moto Unopisa Akaubata, Imire Haimiriri Ivete, Maoko Ihama, Kuipa Hakunonoki, Kupa Kuturika, Gone Ana Gone Wakewo, Usayeuka Bako Wanaiwa, Chinotiza Vamwe Iwe Tizawo, Gonzo Nachin’ai Zvatosvorana, Chaitemura Chava Kuseva, Apunyaira Haashayi Misodzi, Rume Rimwe Harikombi Churu and Moyochena Unouraisa. They provide well illustrated and interesting content. Besides being a source of entertainment, they also create and stimulate creativity in pupils thereby laying out a good foundation for creative writing and story telling in children.

The children can use the books under the guidance of both the teacher at school and the parent at home. Involvement of the teacher and parent to the child’s learning creates a supportive and encouraging atmosphere which is a necessity to every child. It is important for the teacher and parent to know that each book can be read many times by the learner. This strengthens the pupil’s vocabulary as they go through each book.
