Kayole Estate is located on the Nairobi Eastland’s part in Kenya.it consists of the majorly the middle class dwellers. Its development started in the early 1990’s with to facilitate housing for the rapid urbanization from rural migrants.

The quick and unorganized urbanization of Kayole Estate led to poor structures, an explosion on population and a rise in crime due to lack of employment opportunities and the need to cater for the imploding way of life.

Over the years, there has been an influx in crime within the region which is caused by cartels, examples include (Mungiki, Taliban, B3, Rogo Rogo,Gaza Gaza).The security department is responsive but not to the satisfactory level of the residents, accountability of reported crimes is challenging as the suspects are reported but only a dozen get arrested.

The cartels which mostly consists of unemployed youths indulge in criminal activities in order to make ends meet. The recruitment into this cartels is done by word of mouth, only to trusted “few”, after successful recruitment, they are introduced to life of crime which includes rape, extortion of a “small fee” (from Matatu’s and small business around the estate to enable smooth running of their businesses),kidnapping ,murder, robbery with violence, drug trafficking,

PROBLEM DEFINITION

The following are some of the challengers face by the Kayole Estate residents:-

 Increase in crime rates: caused by laxity in security department to take action and the increase in organized crime gangs

 Corruption: Justice is denied due to corruption

 Slow response to reported crimes: no immediate response to the residents who have reported crime related activities.

 Business stand still due to crime

 Increase in organized criminal gangs and cartels

 Dangerous driving within the estate

 Illicit alcohol and drug trafficking:- Among other illegal activities which include hate crimes

PROPOSED SOLUTION

The proposed crime reporting mobile application will enable residents to reporting crime using the Nokia Platform and Android Platform, some of the featured include:-

 Kayole News:-These are news from Kayolesecuritypro.wordpress.com these news will enable residence get update information about the neighborhood.

 Report Crime:- The residents will be able to report crime using this interface with the available given ways ,which includes:

 Calling the Districts’ Officer

 Using the Kayole Security Mobile Application to directly report crime (Consists of a backend which will facilitate managing of the reported crimes.)

 Take a picture

 Send a Short Message to the District Office about a crime

 The Kayole Twitter handle is embedded on the application to enable users see what is trending

 Enforce customization of crime reporting – Kayole is divided into regions, these regions are unique and these application enables user to report crime based on their location

 Numerous alternatives of crime reporting enables residents to have various ways of reporting crimes

 User friendly interface making it easy for all residents to use
