CHARACTERS

KATIE GREAVEN - A young girl of 12. She is cute, precocious, and red-headed. A bit of a tomboy, she has a habit of coming undone when dressed up in her proper clothes. Profile: not a girly girl, vivacious, mischievous, adventurer, fearless, prefers toys and building stuff, she is a tinkerer, loves science and experimentation.

PROFESSOR ARTEMIS GREAVEN - Her father, a brilliant, sometimes disconnected, inventor who has learned to be wary of Edison and others like him, eager to profit off the ideas and discoveries of others. He is friends/colleagues with, among others, Nikola Tesla and Alfred Ely Beach. He is a professor and lecturer at Northwestern in Chicago. He is 37 years of age.

LITTLE JOHN MONKTON - A little person who is an associate--and good friend of--the Professor. His small stature and nimble hands make him a huge asset, able to make repairs and adjustments in otherwise small spaces and compartments. He is also a skilled metal worker/blacksmith and fabricates most of what Greaven needs. He is a good friend of Katie’s as well.

GALILEO - Katie’s clockwork cat, the first mechanical marvel we encounter...

The ENGINE MEN - Professor Greaven’s collection of Mechanical Men, steam-powered gadgets that come in a variety of shapes and sizes! These are the Professor’s most prized--and guarded--creations...and, ultimately, Katie’s only hope to ever see her Father alive again!
