This is an application for displaying the London underground.

What makes this application different from others is the capability to see the train predictions for all platforms for all rail stations on a particular line, in travel order, in a scrollable display area.

Displaying information for all platforms at a station helps people who are transferring to another line. You may have several choices where to transfer, and one can scroll through all the stations on your travel path to see which offers the least waiting. One can also determine if one needs to run or can leisurely walk to the platform at the transfer station.

Features:

1. The capability to see many station's rail predictions at once. You can see all the stations on a particular line in the travel order - for example the Bakerloo line. You can also select to see only transfer stations which are displayed in alphabetical order.

2. It was challenging to display the stations in travel order for some of the rail lines. The Northern line has two branches on the northern end, splits into two routes in the center, and merges at the southern end. I display the Northern line as four lines depending on one's travel route. This helps one follow and track one's traveling progress. To display stations in travel order, each rail-line has one starting point, one ending point, and no variable routes. I have taken the liberty to split a complex line into several simpler lines based on one's travel route.

2. The data update rate is 30 seconds. You will see a small circle turn in the upper right corner while the app is downloading the train prediction information from TFL's web site. Also, to display a large amount of information into a small space on your screen I only display the minutes, and do not display the seconds. Thus every update from TFL will not necessarily mean a change in the train prediction.

3. The capability to download the London underground map from TFL's website and then display it on your phone. There will be a small delay to download the map each and every time you desire to view it. This is necessary because I can not store a copy of the TFL's London Underground map on your phone without paying a substantial royalty payment to the TFL.

4. The capability to automatically recover from an internet outage. Sometimes when I enter rail tunnels, my smart phone loses internet DATA connection. This application will not bother you with any error messages. There is no need to click on anything to try again. The indicator on the top line of your phone shows there is no internet DATA connection, and the data being displayed by the application shows the time the rail prediction data was retrieved from the TFL web server. Thus you can see how stale the rail predictions are. When your phone again gets an internet DATA connection, this app will automatically try to get the rail prediction data from the TFL web server.

5. When this app runs in the background it temporarily stops updating the rail prediction information to conserve data downloading. This means when you press the HOME button, updating of the rail predictions will cease until such time that you press this app’s icon to resume its operation.

6. When the phone’s power button is pressed to place it into sleep mode, or the phone’s “Screen timeout” is reached, then this app will cease updating the rail predictions to conserve data downloading.

7. If you tap on the display it will change from black background with white text to become white background with black text. Just tap and see which you prefer.

8. This app is the closest one can get to a real-time display of the entire London underground system.
