Maldives Broadcasting Corporation was established under legislation on 20th April 2010 as the public service broadcaster of the Maldives.

Broadcast operation began on 14th February 2012 when the assets of the existing Radio and Television networks were handed over to the corporation.

The history of broadcasting dates back to the commencement of the first radio broadcast on 29th December 1962. Television began on 29th March 1978.

Today, Dhivehi Raajjege Adu (Voice of Maldives) and Television Maldives are continuing as part of the public service broadcasting mandated of Maldives Broadcasting corporation.

FM radio services are also being broadcast. Voice of Maldives on FM band and a youth oriented FM service called Dhivehi FM also operates as a public service radio station.

Digital switch-over for television is planned to commence in 2017 with full switch-over targeted for 2019.

A modern AM radio network is planned to be in operation by 2016.

Further broadcast channels are planned to cover Sports, Parliament and dedicated news channel.

The transmission network of MBC covers the entire country on a combined platform of terrestrial, cable and satellite service.
