With the dawn of independence, the nation needed immense development in all arenas. It was visionary Shri C. Rajam’s dream of setting up a premier technical institution in the country. He toiled hard, gave up land and with a resolute mindset to experiment, set up the Madras Institute of Technology (MIT), along the lines of MIT, Boston. The institute is the first self financing college in India. Since 1978, it is an autonomous unit of Anna University. It is known to offer unconventional courses such as Aeronautical Engineering, Instrumentation, Production Technology etc. Notable alumni include Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Writer Sujatha. The institute is truly the MIT of India.

The annual technical festival of the Department of Instrumentation, MIT is a unique blend of celebration and education. Every year, a social theme is chosen and events, drives and campaigns are held based on it. Engineers across the country gather and provide solutions to the problem chosen. The participation is humongous.

The theme chosen this year is ‘Clean India’. With the advent of able leadership, a realization hits us as to what we really need to do to develop. It is Gandhiji’s dream to see a ‘Swachh Bharat’ and we feel that it should be each and every citizen’s vision.
