Mainichi Sponichi TAP-i is a new daily iPad newspaper with articles in Japanese, published every day by the award-winning journalists at Mainichi Newspapers and Sports Nippon Newspapers in Tokyo, Japan. Targeting iPad and iPhone (iPhone Retina display only) instead of PCs, the content is designed to be touched, not just read. Published every day between 3:00 and 7:00 AM Japan time.

In addition to "hard" stories on politics and the economy, TAP-i is chock-full of the latest sports, social and celebrity news. With in-depth reports on the IT world not carried by typical mass-market newspapers, TAP-i issues also contains many beautiful photographs, video and animation.

Interactive pages provide much more intuitive engagement with the news, allowing readers to swipe through rapidly to the stories they want, then dive deeper than paper allows. TAP-i truly enables the reader to touch, not just read, the news.

Downloading and Pricing

The TAP-i application is free. Once launched, a news kiosk appears where you can select individual issues to purchase at $0.99 each with your iTunes account. You can also subscribe for $10.99 a month (first week free) . Once the free period is over, your iTunes account will be automatically charged the respective amount unless you turn off Auto Renew in your iTunes account options in your device's Settings at least 24 hours before the subscription is scheduled to renew. Subscriptions cannot be cancelled in the middle of the subscription period.

Use Wi-Fi to download issues, as 3G or 4G network-based downloading is not allowed.

If you delete the app or need to install on a new or different device, issues you have purchased can be re-downloaded without having to repurchase.

Display of available issues may take longer than normal upon initial installation of the app.

Automatic Background Delivery via Newsstand for Subscribers:

TAP-i resides in the iOS 5 Newsstand. When you first launch TAP-i you will be prompted to accept or decline "push notifications." If you accept, new issues will be delivered automatically once a day in the background, as long as your subscription is active and your iPad or iPhone is connected via Wi-Fi to the Internet when the new issue is published.
