MapAlerter is a free alert service for people living in Ireland who want to receive important notifications from their County or City Council by text message, email, social media and through this App. You can register for a free MapAlerter account using this App where you can manage your account and identify the areas for which you wish to be alerted.

-- How It Works --

You can supply two locations as part of your MapAlerter account (typically Home and Work) and from here the App will know which alerts you should receive. When a Council issues an alert they must define an alert boundary. If either of your map points are within this boundary then you will receive an alert. You can also use MapAlerter as an easy way to make submissions back to your Council for local issues such as Graffiti, Leaks, Litter, Road Defects, and more.

The MapAlerter model is perfect for people who wish to receive timely warning of any Council issue that may impact on their day, such as Water Disruptions or Commute Route Disruption. It is completely free to subscribe to the MapAlerter service, and you will never be charged to receive alerts through any channel (including text messages).

-- Alert Categories --

This award-winning service is used by a number of Irish Councils to issue alerts for a variety of service categories. You can subscribe to all categories or just some of them, depending on your preference. For example, you may not wish to receive Flood Alerts if you live on a hill! The complete list of Alert Categories is as follows:

** Check with your Council to see if they use all categories. In some cases a Council may only alert for some of these categories.

MapAlerter is currently used by a number of Irish Councils, with more hopefully coming on board in the future. If your Council does not appear in the list below then it is still worth signing up, and you will start receiving local alerts when your Council comes on board. MapAlerter does not track your location (eg, GPS). Instead MapAlerter asks you for a one-off map location and this will be used to determine the alerts you will receive. So if you have registered your Home Location in Enniscorthy then you will only ever receive alerts for Enniscorthy, regardless if you have actually moved from the area. You can either pinpoint your home location or simply add a nearby point in the centre of your town. The level of accuracy is entirely up to you but be sure to register in your area to receive the most accurate alerts.
