Maths Everywhere was the winning app in a competition voted on by the general public. Maths Everywhere has moved very quickly from concept to reality in just six months and we really hope that by contextualising maths to everyday life, it engages people and shows just how relevant maths is in their lives.

This app has been developed as part of the Maths4Us initiative to boost maths skills.

It has been funded by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

It was designed and developed by Bolton College and Modern-English Digital in partnership with NIACE.

EVERYDAY TOOLS

This section provides you with lots of everyday help to work out all sorts of maths problems like splitting a bill at the restaurant, working out the fuel costs for a journey, childcare costs, working out darts scores, converting currencies, increasing and decreasing recipe quantities and much more. By selecting the problem you want solving, the app will calculate the maths for you.

HOW TO WORK IT OUT

Having used the app to calculate some everyday maths problems, the next stage is to learn or improve skills in order to solve these problems for yourself. At each level you can look at a range of mini tutorial videos which will help you to build up the skills you need to answer the questions in the app and improve your maths.

HAVE A GO

Having watched the videos, you now have the chance to put your new/improved skills to practise. You can earn a badge for each topic by answering all of the questions correctly. Your badge will be displayed on the topic name so that you can keep track of your learning. The more you practise, the more badges you can earn. If you get the answer wrong, you can press the learn button which will take you back to the appropriate video.

Once you have successfully gained badges for each section and each level, you will unlock the 'CHALLENGE' section for that level.

In the CHALLENGE section:

* 10 points are awarded for a correct answer.

* It is more important that you are accurate than quick. Don’t worry too much about the time limits – it won’t time-out!

* As you get better, you might get quicker so bonus points are also available if you can answer questions correctly within the time limit set.

* Bonus points are awarded if you can answer 3, 6 or 9 correct answers in a row.

You will be prompted to post your score to social media sites so that you can opt to compete against your friends.
