The city and town of Menasha are centrally located in the Fox River Valley, at the top of Lake Winnebago, approximately 100 miles north of Milwaukee and 30 miles south of Green Bay. Located primarily in Winnebago County, part of the city is in Calumet County.
Downtown Menasha is becoming an artists' community, with several excellent art galleries and unique restaurants. Summers feature Art Walks, a weekly farmer's market, parades, community festivals, swimming lessons at the municipal pool, an annual Jazz Fest and other great activites. Winters include an annual outdoor New Year's Eve celebration held downtown in Curtis Reed Square, ice skating at the city ice rink, cross-country skiing, and a winter festival.
The city's downtown has a landscaped river walk and an 87-slip marina. The Trestle Trail, a 1,600-foot long, lighted pedestrian bridge, links downtown Menasha with a Town of Menasha park. It is the longest pedestrian bridge in Wisconsin and includes a center pavilion area with seating and several fishing platforms along the way. The trail is open year-round and is very popular.
The Menasha Joint School District has excellent teachers and is committed to teaching international languages at all grade levels, with specific elementary schools immersing their students in German, Japanese, or Spanish. Menasha's small-town community, affordable homes, recreational opportunities, beautiful parks, great schools, and award-winning public library make it an ideal place to raise a family.
Menasha is home to the Heckrodt Wetland Reserve, the Menasha Conservancy and the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley campus. The university features the popular Barlow Planetarium and the Weis Earth Museum.
The Fox River Valley has many attractions including the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center, Lawrence University's Performing Arts Series, a children's museum--The Building for Kids, the History Museum at the Castle, Gardens of the Fox Cities, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers professional minor league baseball games, High Cliff State Park, fishing tournaments on Lake Winnebago, and an annual book festival. The area is known as a shopping mecca thanks to great local shopping in each of the Fox Cities and the Fox River Mall. Search Fox Cities Online for specific types of organizations. Below: Park to Park Paddlers go through the Little Lake Butte des Morts lock. The Trestle Trail over Little Lake Butte des Morts is a great stretch to walk or bike. The Menasha Farm Fresh Market runs through summer and fall on Main Street. The annual Winter Gala features ice sculpting by amateurs and professionals. One of the downtown fountains marks the start of Curtis Reed Square. And the downtown Menasha Marina is a great success.
