Solve the London Evening Standard Mini Codeword and win a variety of prizes.
Every weekday the Evening Standard has a mini codeword competition and this app will help you win it.
This is how mini codeword works:
Each number from 1 to 9 represents a different letter. Solve the clues and insert the letters in the appropriate squares to discover a word which uses all nine letters.
Here's an example:
6245 gives a woman's name
35889 gives a woman's name
1274142 gives a woman's name
123456789 is the word you have to find
When you have the answer you have to text it to the Evening Standard. Each week one winner is selected at random.
This app saves you having to work out the answer.
With a dictionary of over 100,000 words, every 9 letter word in the dictionary, where each letter is different, is used to 'create' the three code words. If these three created words are also in the dictionary then it's probably found the answer. But you will be asked if you think the answer is correct and, if not, it will continue searching until the dictionary is exhausted.
On a Samsung Galaxy S2 this takes between 45 seconds and one minute.
In the list of words produced, all those that are not in the dictionary are red instead of blue. You can 'long press' on any red word to add it to your dictionary. The list is ordered so that the most likely answers appear first.
