This is set up on Nova Launcher,

This widget pack contains 5 widgets, Clock, agenda, bottom bar, battery widget and cityscape background widget. All in 3 different colors, Green, Blue, and Red. Clock displays Album cover art while music is playing. The center button in the bottom bar has your play/pause button with progress bar. The center button also displays notifications for SMS=Green, Gmail=Red, Missed calls=blue. Once your notification is cleared the play button will reappear, your last notification will be the current color displayed.
