The purpose of the game is to help its players improve their mental addition and subtraction skills. The game is thus intended mainly for elementary/primary school children.

A number wall consists of a triangular wall of bricks in which each brick has been assigned a positive number. Each row of bricks contains one brick less than the row directly beneath it, and the rows are built up until the top row consists of a single brick. The bricks in the wall overlap in the usual fashion so, except for the bricks in the bottom row, each brick sits on two bricks from the row directly beneath it. The bottom row can be chosen to consist of either 3, 4 or 5 bricks.

A number wall is considered to be correct if the number assigned to any brick not in the bottom row is equal to the sum of the two numbers assigned to the two bricks directly beneath it.

The game starts with a correct number wall, but the player is only shown some of the numbers assigned to the bricks.

The bricks displaying numbers are colored yellow and the number of such bricks is equal to the number of bricks in the bottom row. The numbers on the remaining bricks are not displayed, and these bricks are colored blue.

The goal of the player is to assign the correct number to each blue brick.

The values of various parameters can be selected to determine which kinds of number walls are presented to the player. These parameters determine the number of bricks in the bottom row of the wall, the maximum and minimum value which can be assumed by a number assigned to the top brick, the maximum and minimum value which can be assumed by any number assigned to a brick in the bottom row and a configuration level, which determines how the yellow bricks are distributed in the wall.

Roughly speaking, this level specifies how many subtractions need to be made when assigning numbers to the blue bricks without guessing. A low configuration level means few subtractions and mainly additions; a high configuration level means mostly subtractions and few additions.
