Peek a Toy Box uses words, photos and sounds of the child’s own toys, or a default list, to promote pre-literacy and early language development in a fun and meaningful way. Teachers, parents, and therapists will also welcome the playlist feature that allows for the toys of various children to be available independently from the master list of toys.
Key features of the app:
•the magic box moves around enticing the child to touch it
•when the magic box opens the child sees pictures of their own toys and/or default toys
•the magic box has the look of a real object
•the magic box, while acting magical, acts like a real world object in the way it moves
•app comes with ten default toys ready to go!
•allows personalization of content by adding photos of your child’s / student’s toys
•easy to set up playlists for different children or categories of toys
•easily add in spoken name of a new toy
•easily add in printed name of a new toy
•easily add in sound of a new toy
•easily re-arrange the order of the toys in a playlist
which all add up to an app that is easy for children to use and adults to set up.
Here’s what people are saying:
•“I love that you can add in pictures of toys!”
•“This app will help my son learn English better.”
•“Its great to have an app designed by professional educators.”
This app is intended for use by families and professionals (teachers, speech & language therapists, and other specialists who work with young children) as a bridge between real objects and symbols for objects ( pictures, sounds, printed and spoken words). Our intention is that adults will take pictures of children’s own toys and sit with the child as they play with the app in much the same way that an adult sits with a young child to introduce them to books; talking with the child about what they are seeing and what is happening.
