Perfume (パフューム?) is a Japanese pop girl group from Hiroshima, Japan, consisting of Ayano Ōmoto, Yuka Kashino, and Ayaka Nishiwaki. They debuted locally in 2001 and made their transition to a major label in 2005. As of January 2012, the group has released fourteen major label singles on the Tokuma Japan Communications label.

Since 2003, Perfume has been produced by Yasutaka Nakata, founder of the group Capsule and the Contemode label. It was around this time in 2003 that the group's original post-Shibuya-kei sound began making a transition to electronic dance-pop music, influenced by 1980s synthpop and chiptunes, and incorporating Auto-Tune, vocoders and electro house. Following their mainstream breakthrough around 2007, their success inspired other female acts such as Aira Mitsuki, immi, Mizca, SAWA, Saori@destiny and Sweet Vacation to incorporate electropop music.

2012-2013: Label change and international expansion

On March 8, 2012, the group announced the April 11 release of the single "Spring of Life". The title track is already being used as a CM for ‘Kirin Chu-hai Hyouketsu‘. This marks the group's first single to be released under their new record label.

On May 18, 2012 Perfume gave their first English interview to Japan Times Online. In it they discussed K-pop, their move from Tokuma Japan to Universal Music and coming to America for the first time and their desire to perform internationally. Perfume and their management intend to present the group 'as is' internationally rather than adapting them to fit the market like previous attempts by Asian artists to break the international market. This was backed up when the group's latest album JPN was released in various Asian markets physically.

On July 23, 2012, Perfume made two announcements, one of which was that they were having their first tour outside of Japan, in places such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea and Singapore. The second announcement was that they were releasing a new compilation album set for global release named "Perfume Global Compilation LOVE THE WORLD", which is to be released on September 12, 2012.

On August 15, the group released their new single. The single is entitled "Spending All My Time". The single features Hurly Burly and Point, as well as the new title track.

The group also represented Japan at the first ABU TV Song Festival 2012 which was scheduled at the KBS Concert Hall, in Seoul, South Korea on 14 October 2012.

On February 27, 2013, perfume released a single entitled Mirai no Museum. The title track, Mirai no Museum was used as the promotional track for the upcoming Doraemon film, Nobita no Himitsu Dougu Hakubutsukan.

Perfume will hold holding a live tour entitled “Zutto Sukidattanjake~ Sasurai no Men Kata Perfume FES!!“. Running from May 29 to June 18. This will be their first tour using a ‘Battle of bands’ style of performance in which Perfume will appear with three different artists. The artists are Saito Kazuyoshi, Tamio Okuda, and MAXIMUM THE HORMONE. The live tour will be held at Zepp music halls in Tokyo, Nagoya, and Osaka, and there will be 6 performances in total.

Perfume is also scheduled to perform live at the Ultra music festival in South Korea on June 14th.
