Seven inch or larger display is recommended.
This is a Puget Sound tide presentation app. It shows a complete waterway level view of the present tide. The tidal activity varies widely between locations at the mouth of the waterway,
and the locations further inland. As shown below, at 7:45 PM on August 19, 2013, the tide is falling most of the Sound, it is flat in Port Angeles, and it is rising at the mouth which is at Neah Bay.
At each of the eleven tide stations, an icon is drawn which shows both the present tide level and the present direction of flow. The tide level is drawn as a thermometer, indicating the relative fullness of the tide. The tide flow is represented by an arrow, down means falling tide, up means rising tide, and a flat bar means a flat tide (i.e. it is changing very slowly; it is at or near a high or a low tide). The name and exact location of the station is shown on the map.
A text report is also displayed, it coincides with the information presented by the icons on the map. If you study the icons and compare each to it's text based report below you will get a better understanding how the icon represents the tides at that moment.
New, rev3: TIDE GRAPHs. For each station, a 24 hour tide plot can be drawn by tapping the station's tidal icon, or, by use of the settings command "Graph for Station...". This creates a graph of the previous 12 hours and next 12 hours, the graph is centered on the present time. You can plot multiple stations. You can understand the tidal relationship between various locations in the sound. You can plot as many as you want but if there are too many it gets hard to see. You can use the "X" to clear the graph (might have to tap a little below the X. Or you can hit refresh to bring back the normal display. TIP: this operation occurs in "Portrait Mode" when the display is upright.
New, rev 3: Station Daily Report - Covers midnight to midnight of the given date.
In landscape mode you can tap one of the icons and a conventional daily tide report for that station is output. Please refer to the example below. It shows the present height, flow and rate, along
with the day's highs and lows, as well as a graph showing these values.
New, rev3: You can set a date and/or time for the app to use instead of the present date and time. Just select the calendar or clock icons.
You can renew the time and date to the present value by using the refresh icon. This also causes the standard displays to be displayed,
replacing any graph or report that is currently displayed.
CAVEATS, ETC. This is an educational tool and is not intended for critical navigational use. However, it is accurate. The tide chart in this app is limited to the current year. A new version will be provided about New Year. I gleaned the maps from the State of Washington Department of Natural Resources Geology and Earth Resources website. Thanks to the DNR. All tide data is courtesy of the fine folks at the National Ocean Service, however, I am responsible for any issues or omissions and I again state these tide results are not guaranteed.
PLEASE READ. I will be happy to respond to email with an support questions or suggestions. If you have any problem run the ABOUT setting and let me know what it says in your email, also what kind of tablet or phone you are using. FINALLY: There is no advertisement or snooping, The APP does not use the internet at all, all the formulas and maps are built in. It requires no permissions and it only uses enough permanent memory to store your map selection.
I hope you can learn a little about Puget Sound tides by using this app.
Tide Stations: Neah Bay, Port Angeles, Port Townsend, Friday Harbor, Cherry Point, Everett, Sneeoosh Point, Seattle, Bangor,
Tacoma, and Olympia.
