Game History

It is thought that Put and Take was first played in the trenches of the First World War (1914-18).

The original game used a brass bullet, shaped by a soldier, into a six sided spinning top.

Each side had its own instruction, directing the player to either Put One, Put Two, All Put, Take One, Take Two, or Take All.

The top was spun by the players in turn, each putting an ante in the pot (said to be a cigarette), and depending on how the top fell they either took or put the number of cigarettes indicated.

Game Rules

The Game can be played by two or more players.

Play begins when each player "Puts in" a pre-determined stake.

Each player then takes a turn spinning the Put 'n' Take.

When the top stops it will show what the player has won (Take) or lost (Put).

For example "Take One" means the player who spun wins one unit.

"All Put" means that each player puts one extra unit into the kitty (an alternative is to play "Put All" where the player matches the existing kitty).
