Why focus on stretching?

Think of it this way: Power is nothing without control. Stretching is important for the development and maintenance of agility and flexibility. It helps you coordinate and focus your power on where it is needed the most. This quality is an important contributor to your overall competitiveness as an athlete. Not only in tennis. Margins are small in modern sports. For some reason, many people invest huge amounts of time, energy and money in hard training and acquisition of top notch equipment. Then they completely ignore one of the simplest and most valuable fundamental investments in getting the most out of their hard-earned training. A quick, 10-minute stretching programme after each training or match. Stretch your key muscle groups regularly to move smoothly and flexibly in extreme situations, and to prevent injuries. Stretching also helps you build a more beautiful body symmetry and movement. In most sports you probably want to be associated more with a leopard than with a buffalo.

The winning strategy

There is always an opportunity to build competitive advantage in areas which other players ignore. Stretching is one such area. Many people train hard and have disciplined diets. Some already realise the value of focused stretching after the training. It marks a start for the rest and recovery. Surprisingly few know how to do it.

That is why Quick Stretch is here for you. It is a professionally developed, simple and essential stretching routine after a workout, to maintain your flexibility and to speed up your muscular recovery. This is important all season, to help you endure through hard training programmes week after week. During tournaments, experienced players will know that quick recovery from training ache, and maintained agility with smooth movements in your next match can be the difference between success or failure. Rest is important, and stretching helps your body to rest. On a weekly basis, it will help you train more often and enjoy it. So make it a simple and well focused post-training routine, like brushing your teeth in the evening. It does not have to take more than 10 minutes.

The stretching exercises in Quick Stretch are demonstrated by Johan Simonsson, personal trainer at MinFys.se and professional tennis coach in Stockholm, Sweden. Johan is a senior elite tennis player in Sweden and he also holds a black belt and the 5th dan in martial arts. The latter is relevant because of the extensive stretching required over many years to achieve these ranks. For the current app, Johan selected the nine most important stretches that a tennis player should learn to perform routinely to stay fresh and to minimise the risk of injuries. He teaches them to his classes on a weekly basis.
