Rhythm Free is a mindfulness app. It is the only mindfulness app designed specifically for iOS 7 (though it also works on iOS 6!). And now it's free.Experts tell us that the best way to develop a new habit is to practice repeatedly. Rhythm will help you do that. It's the only mindfulness meditation app that allows you build in multiple reminders to help you cultivate a more mindful life. It's also more likely that you'll be willing to practice if you get to choose what you listen to. Rhythm is the only mindfulness app that allows you to add your own audio. They can be they songs or guided practices (either that you have in your iTunes or that you've purchased from the iTunes store - there are many great guided practices you can purchase there, including Jon Kabat-Zinn's work).After your practice you can visualize what your breathing or movement looked like during your mindful time. Have a look at your graphs to get a sense of how much Rhythm you've got and work to establish a rhythm that makes sense for you.The built-in practices have been carefully chosen by Dr. Sammy Banawan to help you along your way to develop a more effective mindful practice. But, of course, you can add your own, too.Some other features: + use any audio you'd like for your practices. If you have some mindfulness CDs (like Jon Kabat Zinn's guided practices), rip them in iTunes and put them on your device then be reminded actually do them. + remind yourself to practice at any time of the day. It's not going to magically make you able to leap tall buildings in a single bound or lift a car off a person trapped underneath. (You'll never be asked to pay for in-app purchases. You get the audio and the ability to add your own without any extra hoops.)But it will make you focus while doing those things. The more practiced you get at something like mindfulness, the more effective your practices become. The app is called Rhythm because it allows you to see how deliberate and mindful you're being, either when you're moving or when you're breathing. Rhythm is the root of stability and predicability. When you have those things and can be more rhythmic in your movements, your ability to focus will follow.Rhythm has been designed by a psychologist who teaches mindfulness to his patients and is pre-populated with practices that have been shown, through research, to be helpful in increasing focus or reducing negative emotionality. It's not a replacement for therapy but it is a very useful way to approach a more mindful life.Despite the importance of starting with some researched practices, Rhythm allows you to add your own practices in whatever way makes sense for you. If there's a song you like to listen to while practicing mindfulness, you can add it. If there's a guided practice you've got in your iTunes (I like Jon Kabat Zinn's guided practices), you can use it in the app, as well.
